What older Boise houses actually need

A Boise house painted before 1978 needs a different conversation than a 2020 build in Meridian. Here is the honest version of what we do.

Lead-safe prep on pre-1978 homes. Federal RRP rule. Plastic containment, HEPA vacuum cleanup, wet methods for sanding. We do not pretend it is not required and we do not charge for it on a job that does not need it.

Wood siding prep. Scrape loose paint, spot prime bare wood with an oil or shellac primer (depending on the wood and the tannin situation), caulk every gap, then two coats of exterior latex. This is the part that determines whether your paint job lasts five years or fifteen.

Original trim preservation. Older Boise homes often have trim worth keeping. We mask, sand, prime, and brush in tight cut lines instead of pulling and replacing.

Plaster wall repair. Older Boise interiors are plaster, not drywall. Hairline cracks, patch and skim, sand smooth, then prime and paint. Different process than skimming new drywall.

Window casing and storm window work. Brush only, oil-based primer on bare wood window casing in some cases, then trim enamel topcoat.

Do you handle lead-safe prep on older Boise homes?

Yes. Homes in the North End and East End built before 1978 can have lead paint. We are EPA RRP trained and follow lead-safe prep and cleanup, so an older Boise house gets repainted without spreading dust around the neighborhood.

Can you paint plaster walls and not just drywall?
